Travel

Portsmouth does not have a commercial passenger airport. There are three nearby airports: Boston's Logan International Airport (BOS) in Massachusetts, the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT) in New Hampshire, and Portland International Jetport (PWM) in Maine. Our personal feeling is that Boston's Logan airport is the best choice unless you are renting a car. Detailed directions are provided below. If you are renting a car, MHT or PWM are a bit closer and avoid Boston traffic.

There are many local taxi companies, we recommend Great Bay Taxi (603-326-8294) and Annie's Taxi (603-531-9955).

The nearest Amtrak rail station are Durham or Dover , which are about 20 minutes by taxi from Portsmouth.

How to Reach ICAPS via Boston's Logan Airport

C&J Bus provides service every hour from Logan to Portsmouth's bus terminal (takes about 85 minutes, buses usually have WiFi and AC power). This is our homemade instructional video on how to take the bus from Logan Airport to Portsmouth. You can either buy tickets on-line at their website or give the bus driver your driver's license and pay for your ride after you reach Portsmouth. Unlike air travel, you do not reserve a seat on a specific bus. This means no hassle if your flight is delayed. Don't be worried about not getting a seat - C&J is very good about having a second bus available during busy times when the first one is likely to fill up. If you have a large bag to put in the luggage compartment under the bus, you will be asked what your final destination is, as bags are organized on this basis. The answer is "Portsmouth main terminal".

We recommend that you tell the bus driver that you are attending the ICAPS conference in Portsmouth and ask if they could please call Great Bay Taxi (603-326-8294) and ask them to meet the bus in Portsmouth. C&J will notify Great Bay of the number of ICAPS passengers and Great Bay will have the appropriate number of vehicles waiting, with a special flat rate of $15 per vehicle to the Portsmouth Sheraton. The taxi ride should take less than 10 minutes and will provide an opportunity to meet fellow researchers even before the conference starts!

Please contact Wheeler Ruml (Conference Co-chair) and Scott Kiesel (Local Arrangment Chair) if you have any question about traveling to ICAPS'14.
